Passive Transient EM

Mounted in a light aircraft, and steered by satellite GPS navigation, SEEPFINDER records the presence of thin molecular oil films on the surface of  the sea. The detection of oil seepage has often given the oil exploration industry the first clues to sub-surface and sub-sea oil accumulations – some authorities  claim that 95% of all discoveries were made because of seepage in one form or another.



  • A computer controlled airborne optical spectrometer
  • Detects fluorescence from minute concentrations of hydrocarbons on the surface of water
  • Correlates between seeps and to-surface faults on a migration pathway
  • Records multiple channels, combined into 3 groups, namely light, mid and heavy-end, providing indication of the oil API and its composition
  • Sensitivity is approximately 50ppm at 100 meters above mean sea level
  • Normally flown in conjunction with high-sensitivity magnetometer and gravity (GRAVEX) system
